The Chufa Co This exciting frozen treat is made with organic tigernuts (not a nut, but a tuber!), an ancient superfood rich in prebiotics. It’s not only delicious, it’s also vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, and nut-free. Ask your retailers for it if they don’t carry it yet, you will thank me!

Coconut Bliss Made with simple, pure ingredients, this vegan, paleo-friendly coconut-based ice cream is certified organic, dairy-free, gluten-free, and soy-free. This brand deserves huge credit for creating the “healthy” ice cream market in my opinion. With flavours like Ginger Cookie Caramel, Salted Caramel and Mint Galactica, you find the perfect flavour for your cravings! Available widely.

NadaMoo This extra creamy, dairy-free, coconut milk based ice cream is made with organic, vegan, gluten-free, and fair-trade ingredients. Although some of their flavours contain nuts, and all flavours are made with the same equipment, they thoroughly wash, clean and test everything to prevent cross-contamination.

Cado A non-dairy avocado based ice cream! Nothing artificial, just real, organic, soy-free, gluten-free, non-gmo certified ingredients that leave you feeling satisfied and nourished.

Hibiscus This ice cream is all organic, all vegan and besides the occasional festival they go to, their ice cream is exclusively available at their little Kensington Market location in Toronto! I just enjoyed this ice cream from them that is made from a base of black sesame with a bit of charcoal for effect! Their bases are made from organic coconut, almond and even mung beans (no soy!), and they’re sweetened with agave or fruit.

Delight This husband and wife team from Toronto source their certified organic, fair trade chocolate from the Dominican Republic, and organic cream from grass fed cows in Ontario resulting in ice cream that is truly delightful. I choose to indulge in their vegan flavours – there are always at least two plus a sorbet as well. Delight is exclusively available at their location in the Junction in Toronto.

Grinning Face Non-dairy gelato goodness made from scratch in Cabbagetown in Toronto! This small batch, coconut based, creamy gelato is free of anything artificial, and has no dairy, nuts, gluten, or soy. Not all flavours are vegan, but there are many options. Available directly from them and at select healthy retailers around Toronto.

Screamin Brothers This allergy friendly ice cream was created by JR Wikkerink when he was just 10 years old to raise money to support those impacted by earthquake in Haiti. Sold across Canada, this dairy-free coconut ice cream continues to raise funds to support children near and far. It is sweetened with honey, and when you leave it out for 10 minutes before enjoying it tastes like the creamiest soft serve!

Coconut Bliss Ice Cream Sandwich Hemp seed chocolate chip cookies made with sprouted flours and fair-trade dark chocolate sandwiching Vanilla Island Coconut Bliss Ice Cream!

Kippy’s Organic Non-Dairy Ice Cream Shop Raw, organic non-dairy coconut based ice cream sweetened with raw local honey or dates. All flavors are dairy free, soy free, nut free, gluten free, and 5 ingredients or less!

Fontaine Sante This organic sorbet is made with just a handful of ingredients (nothing artificial!), and no added sugar!!!! (no lactose, no gluten, and no preservatives either) Made in Canada, distributed widely.

Van Leeuwen  If you like ice cream, Van Leeuwen Classic and Vegan ice creams are made from scratch with just a handful of quality ingredients. Each flavour is a celebration some of the world’s best artisan producers and farmers. The Vegan scoops are made with house made cashew milk, organic coconut milk, organic extra virgin coconut oil, organic cane sugar, pure cocoa butter and organic carob bean. The Turmeric vegan ice cream with sugar cookie was the last one that I tried and loved. Although their locations are fantastic, look out for their ice cream truck!
