We’re past the days of laying out in the sun unprotected. Have fun, stay safe, and cover up!

Wooed Sunglasses Don’t leave home without the perfect pair of shades. These handmade wood frames will keep the glare from your eyes while doing right by the planet – the perfect combo to protect your eyes from the sun no matter where you are. If your kids wear glasses (like two of mine do), consider getting them transition lenses so they don’t need a second pair (to lose or break) and their eyes will always be protected best!

Living Libations Everybody Loves Sunshine with Zinc Nadine created this product as really pure option for those sunny days of play. A natural sunshade product made with un-coated zinc oxide to reflect the sun’s rays, rather than absorb them. I love this entire line, love the packaging (in glass!) and trust the ingredients. When it comes to integrity, Living Libations tops the list.

Green Beaver Mineral Sunscreen for Kids This hypoallergenic sunscreen is a chemical-free sun protection solution for children. It’s light and gentle on the skin with vegan, gluten-free and organic certified ingredients. I’ve used this for my kids, and love that it’s Canadian, and is less-whitening than the other protection, however, I don’t find that it works to protect their skin as well as some others. The rashguard and hat still beats any sunscreen!

climbOn SPF 30 Mineral Sunscreen Practice safe sun care with this mineral sunscreen that isn’t chalky or difficult to rub in. It soothes and protects your skin without any greasiness or dirty ingredients. You’ll have to get this great product online, as it’s a smaller company from the west coast of Canada.

Awaken My Senses Red Raspberry Oil Studies have shown that red raspberry seed oil offers excellent UV-A and UV-B protection, with an SPF rating of 25 to 50. Great everyday protection and nourishing for your skin.

Patagonia 100% Cotton Hat A good hat protects you from the harmful rays, and looks good! This form fitting cap is made ethically from 100% organic cotton (keeping pesticides out of the water we drink). Go organic! Wide brimmed hats are also great, and Mountain Equipment co-op and REI have great, eco options with more sun protection.

Kooshoo Journey Shawl This beautiful shawl is the ultimate cover up. It’s ethically and lovingly produced in the USA, from 100% Tencel (from sustainably farmed Eucalyptus trees), and is hand dyed in a 100% solar powered facility. Great for a beach cover up, for travel and can be worn so many ways.

Lole Rashguard Protect at the beach or by the pool with this four-way stretch Swim Tech, a chlorine-resistant blend of nylon and elastane with a UPF 50+ factor. Rashguards are available for kids and adults of all ages and sizes. Be sure to dry them in the shade and keep them out of the heat (dryer included) when not wearing them to have them last as long as possible. I think rashguards are one of the best investments in safe sun practices and are worth every penny, especially when you compare the costs to sunscreen.
